This year, student volunteers will provide essential support to the IEEE VIS Conference remotely. We are looking for reliable and enthusiastic students who have experience with online events to staff various virtual conference events or help with pre-conference setup to ensure a pleasant overall experience.

Student volunteers will receive all of the benefits of this year’s program and get access to reserved virtual groups (more on this soon!). Student Volunteers will also benefit by observing first-hand the latest advances in visualization, hearing and meeting world-class as well as next-generation visualization professionals from around the world, and building a network of research colleagues.

Application System

We will be implementing a rolling system in which we will select student volunteers on a two week cycle in order to accommodate pre-conference duties. For more details, please check the selection process page.

☛ Application ☚ starts on August 5. We will keep the system open until at least the middle of September.

Applicants must be enrolled as full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students during the conference. We may request proof of enrollment be provided. Post-Docs will not be considered.

Student Volunteer Duties

Volunteers will work approximately 10–15 hours before and/or during the conference. The preconference tasks could be helping set up the website/conferencing platform for talks, checking videos and slides, etc. In-conference tasks could be monitoring a conference channel. We will provide more details about the new virtual duties soon. Please check the tasks page for more information.

Requests to perform certain tasks are fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis, with limits to the number of hours any volunteer may devote to certain types of tasks. Volunteers will be notified when the task request system will open.

Volunteer Benefits

In exchange for approximately 10–15 hours of work, student volunteers will receive the following benefits:

  • A commemorative SV T-shirt, designed by a fellow student volunteer
  • Swag (e.g., a mug)
  • Registration fee waiver for student speakers
  • Special events with other student volunteers
  • Special events hangout with senior researchers
NOTE: We are currently finalizing this list of benefits with the organizing committee, and thus is still subject to change.

Conference Registration

The registration fee for virtually attending IEEE VIS 2020 is free. A fee is required for presenters and contributors. Please check the conference's main website for more information.
